and Target

Groups

Ethiopia has one of the largest populations of orphans in the world: 13 percent of children throughout the country are missing one or both parents. This represents an estimated 4.6 million children.

YeKolo Temari Foundation will target vulnerable and/or orphaned children living in rural Ethiopia who have chosen to take on the difficult journey of pursuing traditional Ethiopian education. We want to help and nurture these children, as their biggest desire is to pursue their dreams of an education and a better life. This help will be provided in two ways:

Onsite – The YeKolo Temari Foundation supports students by providing them with a place to live, meals, school materials, healthcare, and a four-year traditional Ethiopian education program at the YeKolo Temari Foundation complex in Debre Libanos by certified Ethiopian traditional teachers.

Offsite - support over 70 students that are taught by local teachers in rural Ethiopia by paying teachers’ salaries and supplying the students with food, books, and clothing.

Our Advantages

YeKolo Temari Foundation has several advantages it can offer the people it servers. Our advantages include:

  • Laser-focused purpose - The reason for our foundation is extremely specific.

  • Strict educational guidelines - YeKolo Temari Foundation will have policies on students’ performance. School attendance will be taken to ensure the supported students are attending regularly and accomplishing what is expected.

  • Controlled oversight of the program - The country representative will be travelling on a scheduled basis to different locations where the YeKolo Temari Foundation is providing its services to ensure students are attending their school, paid teachers are performing their assigned duties and verify that each student’s needs are met so that they succeed in their educational pursuits.

Problem Statement

As of 2015, 23.5 % of Ethiopia’s 100 million inhabitants live below the poverty line with the majority being the young population that mainly survives by begging, and working extremely low paying jobs.

Poverty poses an unsafe and harsh burden on children (especially orphaned children) who desire a traditional Ethiopian education. Students often quit their education due to health problems, lack of food and shelter, lack of assistance, and seeking other jobs or other necessities pertaining to daily life.

Many Ethiopian orphaned and vulnerable children are often forced into the streets to beg for food, clothing, learning materials and even shelter.

Without help, many of these children will be further victimized and continue to suffer a cycle of poverty. But when given the chance to receive an education, we believe these children can grow up to be responsible, healthy adults that give back to their communities.

The good that is done is generational.
